Dynamic transiting planets are constantly in motion. When transiting planets make a hard or easy aspect to our natal, progressed, converse, or solar return planets, they have the potential to trigger events. This is why when the transiting outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto make hard aspects to our inner planets they can bring about life changing events and crises. The luminaries (Sun and Moon) and inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars) last for a shorter time and their effects can sometimes go unnoticed if not consciously aware of their energies. These inner planets are used to time major events as indicated by the outer planets to a more precise time.
Secondary progressions are the placement of the planets in the sky in the subsequent days after your birthday. For example, if you were born on June 30/ 1968, your secondary progressed planets at age 7 would be the placement of the planets on July 7/ 1968. Human beings are constantly growing, learning and evolving, likewise our secondary progressed chart at a given time is a psychological representation of the new energies, personality traits, feelings, thoughts and themes in our lives. When a planet progresses into a new sign, it represents a psychological shift in the matters governed by that planet. Secondary progressions are also important in predictive astrology; when progressed planets make aspects to each other, or to natal planets, or are being transited by the dynamic planets in the sky, they have the potential to trigger events.
Converse progressions are the placement of the planets in the sky in the days leading up to your birthday. For example, if you were born on June 30/ 1968, your converse progressions at age 7 would be the placement of the planets on June 23/ 1968. Converse progressions are important in predictive astrology and can trigger events when a converse planet is being transited by a dynamic planet in the sky, when converse planets make aspects to each other , or when a converse planet makes an aspect to a natal planet.
Solar returns are a snapshot of the heavens each year when the transiting Sun returns to its natal position. The solar return's effects last for approximately one year and tell us what the dominant themes are psychologically as well as predictively. As the name suggests, the aspects the Sun makes are particularly important. The house position of the Sun tells us which area of life will be the dominant focus for the year ahead. You may also wish to look at planets on the angles of the solar return as they take on an added emphasis, for example publishing a book when Jupiter is brought to an angle or moving houses when uranus is brought to an angle. Natal planets that are brought to the house cusps of the solar return should be analyzed. For instance if your Saturn is at 17 degrees sagittarius and your solar return 8th house cusp is 17 degrees sagittarius, then it may be likely that you will face challenges related to 8th house matters such as getting audited (taxes), a loved one passing away or losing a large amount of money. Look at the degree on the solar return ascendant to see which natal house will dominate this year. To illustrate, if your solar return ascendant is 20 degrees taurus and 20 degrees taurus falls in your natal 10th house, career matters may be the focus of your attention this year.
Lunar returns are a snapshot of the heavens each month when the moon returns to its natal position. When the lunar return has a strong resemblance to the solar return for the year, it can be used to fine tune predictions of an event to a narrower time frame. The lunar return shows our emotional state for that month. They can be interpreted similarly to a solar return but just operating for a month.
Solar arcs move all the planets in your natal chart forward by approximately 1 degree per year, this is because solar arcs move at the same speed as the sun does in one day. Major events can be expected when solar arc planets make aspects (especially conjunctions) to the angles of your natal chart (ascendant, IC, descendant and MC).
Profections and Time Lords
In traditional astrology there is a method of forecasting relating the themes of the astrological houses to 12 year cycles. In this system the time lord is the traditional ruler of the cusp of the house that is highlighted. This means that uranus, neptune and pluto are not used. Instead, saturn rules aquarius, jupiter rules pisces and mars rules scorpio.
To illustrate, if my birthday is July 17th and I turn 33 in 2020, it will be my 10th house of career and public reputation that will get highlighted from July 17th 2020 to July 16th 2021. Let's say the cusp of my 10th house has taurus on it, then the time lord will be venus because venus rules taurus. To gain insight into the themes in the time period of July 17th 2020- July 16th 2021 we would consider the house venus is placed in and any natal aspects it makes to other planets and angles. The characteristics of venus would also be emphasized that year.
A woman who was in her 8th house activation year had jupiter as her 8th house ruler and jupiter was placed in her 9th house of higher education. For that entire year, she was in graduate school completing a masters degree. She also started privately studying with a metaphysical teacher so she could learn rituals of alternative healing. During this time she had access to esoteric knowledge that transformed her worldview.
A couple immigrated to Canada, the wife was in a 12th house activation year and her husband in an 11th house activation year. The 12th house relates to more permanent foreign settlements. The man's 11th house ruler moon is placed in his 10th house. His company had given him a transfer and that is the reason they decided to move.
The seventh house governs the second child. When a couple had their second child, the woman was in a 8th house activation year, and mars rules her 8th house. Mars is the dispositor of the 7th house and mars also makes close squares to the descendant and 7th house ruler venus. The man was in a 7th house activation year. The time lord jupiter (as he had a pisces descendant) made a square to the descendant.
When a client was in a 12th house activation year she immigrated to Canada permanently. In her following 12th house activation year, she met her future husband . In her chart, Venus rules the 12th house and the 7th house. Venus makes a 6 degree trine to the moon in her 7th house.
A man was in his 7th house activation year when he finally got his first big break in his career after many years of struggling. Mars is the ruler of his 7th house and it makes 2-3 degree trines to both his venus (placed in the 10th house) and moon (ruler of the 10th house). It also makes a 2 degree sextile to jupiter which is the dispositor of the 10th house.
A woman was in her 9th house activation year when she was gifted a property worth over $700 000. The 9th house has jupiter placed in it and jupiter is ruler of her 8th house governing sudden windfalls. Mars as the ruler of the 9th house alsom makes a square to jupiter.
The 5th house represents the eldest child and the 7th house represents the second child. A client was in her 11th house activation year when she had her eldest child. Venus is ruler of the 11th house and makes a 2 degree sextile to the 5th house cusp and a 12 degree conjunction to mars which is the ruler of the 5th house. Three years later she had twins in her 2nd house activation year. Jupiter rules the 2nd house and is at 27 degrees gemini (interesting as gemini's symbol is the twins) and jupiter makes a 3 degree semisquare to the 7th house cusp and a 2 degree quincunx to venus which is the ruler of the 7th house.
Celebrity example: Yoko Ono was 33 when she met John Lennon in November 1966. That year her 10th house was activated. Her career got a tremendous boost as she caught John's attention and became instantly famous as they started their relationship. John was 26 when he met Yoko, that year his 3rd house was activated. His 3rd house cusp is gemini so mercury becomes the time lord. Mercury is placed in his 7th house of partnership and marriage.
