The seventh house governs marriage, partnerships, one on one relationships, open enemies and lawsuits. The cusp of the seventh house is the descendant. The sign on the descendant, ruler of the descendant, dispositor of the ruler of the 7th house, aspects of planets to the descendant and descendant ruler, and the planets placed in the 7th house reveal the types of romantic partners that we are attracted to, form relationships with, and potentially marry. As the planets in the 7th house are angular, when they are activated, they will have a more marked influence than usual.

Tom’s Mercury is angular and out of bounds, both factors causing Mercury’s characteristics to become more prominent in his nature.
The ruler of Tom’s 7th house Neptune is placed in Libra. Rita has Venus in her tenth house conjunct the MC 2 degrees. Similarly, the ruler of Rita’s 7th house Mercury is placed in Libra and Tom's Venus is conjunct his MC 2 degrees.
Tom’s South Node is conjunct Rita’s descendant 2 degrees, showing the pull of destiny in them coming together.
There are 100 celebrities in the marriage study. All of them have either an A or AA rating on Solar Fire or Astro Data Bank. The sample was selected randomly and includes celebrities from film, television, music, politics and the Royal family. The purpose of the study is to analyze the activation of transits to the 7th house marriage indicators a person experienced on their wedding day.
Marriage indicators are factors in your chart directly linked to the 7th house. They include your 7th house ruler, your 7th house dispositor, your 7th house cusp, planets closely (within 3 degrees) conjunct your 7th house cusp (even if in the 6th house) and planets in the 7th house.
Exact aspects: There are 67 exact aspects to the 7th house cusp. There are 64 aspects to the 7th house ruler. There are 62 aspects to the 7th house dispositor. There are 44 aspects to planets in the 7th house. Keep in mind that many celebrities do not have any planets in the 7th house.
The average number of exact aspects in this sample is 237/100= 2.37. It is expected all things being equal that people with fewer natal marriage indicators may be slightly lower and people with more natal marriage indicator slightly above, although there are exceptions.
Only 6 people in this sample did not have any exact aspects on their wedding day. This includes: Paul McCartney, Audrey Hepburn, Bill Clinton, Celine Dion, Harry Truman and Margaret Thatcher.
On their wedding day, every person in this study had at least one contact from either Pluto, Neptune or Uranus. Thus, an outer planet making an aspect seems to be a prerequisite for marriage. However, there may be exceptions to the rule.
For celebrities with 2 or 3 marriage indicators (n=59), the average amount of transiting aspects is 11.31, median amount of transiting aspects is 11, max is 17 and min is 7. Note that in this sample, there was only 2 celebrities with 2 marriage indicators.
For celebrities with 4 marriage indicators (n=23), the average amount of transiting aspects is 16.48, median is 16, min is 12 and max is 25. Note that Audrey Hepburn had 25 aspects and did not have any exact aspects, the large quantity of aspects may be a compensation for none of them being exact. Excluding Audrey Hepburn the max was 22.
For celebrities with 5 marriage indicators (n=14), the average amount of transiting aspects is 17.71, median amount is 17.5, min is 12 and max is 22.
For celebrities with 6 or 7 marriage indicators (n=4), the average amount of transiting aspects is 25. The median is 23.5, min is 22 and max is 31.
The average amount of planets aspecting natal marriage indicators is 8.1 including the North node. This figure excludes Moon aspects. The maximum number of planets including the North Node is 10. In this sample the minimum aspecting planets was 4 and the maximum 10. If the moon is included, the figure rises to a max of 11.
This study illustrates that marriages typically have a pattern that are reflected by the number of transiting planets in relation to the number of the natal chart's 7th house marriage indicators. Consequently, when looking at a natal chart for the purpose of seeing when a person may marry in the future, you would need to consider the amount of marriage indicators they have natally in relation to the transiting aspects at a certain period of time. Also important to remember is that eclipses to the natal marriage indicators are usually associated with marriage when they are in tight orb. Eclipses have varying degrees of power, with some extremely powerful eclipses affecting a person for up to 5 years. Eclipses sensitize a degree point which then get activated by transiting planets.
Meryl Streep has Jupiter conjunct her 7th house cusp by 2 degrees. Don Gummer (born December 12th 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, birth time unknown) has his Sun, South Node and Mars in Sagittarius. Meryl's 7th house ruler Uranus is conjunct the Sun. Don's Moon, Pluto and Saturn are in Leo (Sun rules Leo). Her 7th house dispositor is the Moon at 14 degrees Taurus. Don has Venus and Jupiter at 16-17 degrees Scorpio opposing her Moon. They married on September 30th 1978 in Stonington, Connecticut and remain married over four decades later.
Her natal chart indicators are:
7th house cusp is 2 degrees 45 min Aquarius
7th house ruler is Uranus at 0 degrees 44 min Cancer
7th house dispositor Moon at 14 degrees 23 min Taurus (exalted)

The eighth house governs esoteric knowledge, transformation, shared resources, the occult, other people’s money, taxes, sex, death, rebirth, secrets, alternative healing/ medicine, meditation, wills and legacies. It also is reflective of humiliation, losses, downfalls and secrets being exposed.
In an individual’s chart we see his ‘luck’ with other people’s resources and money. Will he come into some type of inheritance or inherit a legacy? Will he lose money due to other people deceiving him? Will he gain or lose money in a divorce? If he divorces, will it be amicable or painful?
Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge is the son of Prince William and Princess Kate of the British Royal Family. He has an eighth house stellium: Sun, Mercury, Mars and Jupiter. The eighth house ruler Mercury is in the house, adding extra strength. This indicates that the affairs of the 8th house will be prominent in his life. The 8th house represents legacies and inheritances; he was born into one of the most famous and well respected royal families in the world. From a young age he is able to command admiration, just by virtue of his birth.
To add further strength, he has a prominent Pluto/Scorpio influence (both correspond to the 8th house). The ascendant is at 27 degrees Scorpio, Pluto makes 6 aspects to the planets, ( 4d opposition to Jupiter, 4d opposition to Mercury, 5d sextile to Saturn, 3d square to Uranus, 4d opposition to Mars, 5d sextile to Neptune), an exact opposition to the Vertex and a 3 degree sextile to the North Node. The 12th house and 1st house cusps, Saturn and the North Node are all in Scorpio, adding more strength to the Scorpio influence. Considered holistically, we can see not only a Prince who inherited a legacy, but a Prince who will leave a legacy. I think he will be a powerful, charismatic presence, with mystery and depth.
Esoteric knowledge may include subtle realms not available to most people, psychic phenomena, physical and mental healing, healers, transformation and intense spiritual experiences. People with a powerful 8th house are natural healers. Their lives are filled with intense and transformative experiences. They use these experiences to gain ever deepening levels of self- awareness and wisdom and then may decide to help others heal.
Deepak Chopra has Sun, Mercury, Mars and Jupiter in the 8th house. The Sun is tightly conjunct Chiron, a classic sign of a healer, its more pronounced because Sun-Chiron is so close to the 8th house cusp. The 8th house cusp is 26 degrees Libra which is a critical degree giving it an energetic boost. He is a prolific author and medical doctor who has written about physical and mental healing. Deepak is the author of over 86 books translated into 43 languages and many of them have been New York Times bestsellers. His Mercury-Mars conjunction gives him an ability to speak and write in a direct and easy to understand way for a diverse audience. He gets right to the heart of the matter.
He pioneered (Uranus trines the 8th house cusp) the use of innovative alternative healing methods focused on meditation, breathing techniques and spirituality. The North Node forms a sesquiquadrate with the 8th house cusp showing its link with his destiny. His books, audios, podcasts, lectures and meditations have inspired people to heal and achieve an optimal mind-body connection. For instance, he partnered with Oprah Winfrey to release 21-day meditation experiences that encourage people to use a different Sanskrit mantra each day to focus the mind on a particular thought such as finding peace or hope. His work has transformed (Pluto is quintile the 8th house cusp) the way people take care of their mental and physical health. The Chopra Center in California offers meditation, personal growth and wellness retreats, meditation certification, as well as Ayurvedic lifestyle enrichment and certification.
The ninth house governs religion, philosophy, belief system, long distance travel, foreign lands, higher education, luck, and good fortune. This is the house where we seek to explore the world around us. We want to learn diverse ways of living, compare and contrast belief systems and values from a variety of cultures. One of the ways we learn a lot of new knowledge in a relatively short period of time is at a university or college. For the first time, we can study primarily the subject that interests us and meet new people who share the same interests. These years are usually characterized by rapid knowledge acquisition which expands our outlook on life.
The ninth house represents religion and connection with a higher power. It deals more with the buildings, structures, tradition, authority and formal belief system that characterizes organized religion. Spirituality is shown by the 12th house. In the 9th house we wonder about the larger questions in life and seek to find answers that give life more meaning. Our attitude towards divine intelligence is shown by planets connected with the house, the characteristic of the planet influences how we perceive God. In the third house, we gathered up all the details and facts, in the ninth house we put all these things together to see wholes and patterns. The way in which we attribute meaning to life events is shown by planets connected here.
Another domain of the ninth house is foreign travel, we leave our home and take an adventure into the unknown. Our style and purpose for travelling is shown by planets connected here.
The ninth house represents publishing; broadcasting your ideas to the wider world. Many writers have a busy third/ ninth house axis.
The Court, justice and order is reflected in the ninth house. It is about restoring harmony, balance and achieving fairness. Everyone connected with preserving the law and order of society are represented here.
Bruce Chatwin is a good example of a powerful ninth house. He was a famous British travel writer, having visited Patagonia, Africa, Peru, Australia, China, and France among others. He won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for his novel On the Black Hill (1982), this novel was made into a film. His books have sold millions of copies worldwide. Bruce has Pluto (which is his chart ruler since he has a Scorpio ascendant) is exactly conjunct the ninth house cusp and conjunct the moon. Wherever the chart ruler is placed will become a point of focus for the person's life. With Pluto being on the cusp, it can be said that not only was he deeply transformed by his travel experiences, but also that his writing about his experiences helped transform others, inspiring many other travel writers and tourists curious to learn more about the places Bruce wrote about. The moon suggests that Bruce felt most secure on the road; he needed mental and physical exploration to answer his philosphical questions about the nature of life and existence. This nomadic lifestyle fulfilled his emotional needs for freedom and adventure, symbolized by Jupiter tightly squaring the 9th house cusp and Pluto. The ruler of the 9th house is the Sun which makes an exact angular conjunction with Uranus. This aspect is descriptive of his uncoventional and provocative nature as well as his need to break new ground and live life on his own terms.
The tenth house governs ambition, career, public reputation, status, achievement, ambition, fame and notoriety. The tenth house cusp (MC) is the highest point on the natal chart. It is an angular point and planets aspecting it influence the career we choose and our public reputation. The characteristics of these planets are visible to other people, especially in a professional sense.
One would examine both the sign on the cusp of this house, as well as the MC ruler, its sign and house placement to see how a person would be remembered for their achievements. I have noticed that planets that are in the ninth house but within 15 degrees of the MC seem to have influence over a person’s chosen career. This could be because the ninth is the house of higher education and usually the subject a person chooses to study is related to a profession they would like to enter. The planets connected with this house shows our approach to work.
Albert Einstein had the Sun, Mercury, Saturn, and Venus in the 10th house. Pablo Picasso had Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto in the 10th house. Both were icons. However, a person with an empty tenth house may achieve just as much of career success as a person with a packed tenth house. Madonna, Barack Obama, Bette Midler and Luciano Pavarotti have no planets in the 10th. An empty tenth house does not correlate with lower status. Social status is not obvious from a natal chart as environmental and contextual factors play a considerable role as well.
In a study of 68 of the world’s most powerful people (whose birth data was available) according to the 2012 Forbes ranking, I found that Mars-Sun (59%), Mars-Saturn (56%) and Mars-Mercury (54%) were the top aspects. The prevalence in the general population of having any type of Sun-planet aspect using the orbs in the methodology is 35.6%. There are 20 degrees each for conjunctions, oppositions and squares (10 degree orb allowed applying or separating 20 x 3= 60 degrees). Sextiles and trines have 18 degrees each (9 degree orb either applying or separating, 18 x 2= 36 degrees.) Hard minor aspects (sesquiquadrate, semisextile, quincunx, semisquare) have 6 degrees each (3 degree orb either applying or separating, 6 x 4=24). Easy minor aspects (quintile, biquintile) have 4 degrees each (2 degree orb either applying or separating, 4x2=8). There are 360 degrees in the zodiac. Adding 60, 36, 24 and 8 totals 128, 128/ 360= 35.6% . The prevalence in the general population of having any type of planet-planet aspect using the orbs in the methodology is 32.8%. There are 18 degrees each for oppositions, squares and conjunctions (9 degree orb either applying or separating, 18 x 3= 54 degrees). Sextiles and trines have 16 degrees each (8 degree orb either applying or separating, 16x 2=32 degrees.) Hard minor aspects (sesquiquadrate, semisextile, quincunx, semisquare) have 6 degrees each (3 degree orb either applying or separating, 6x 4=24 degrees). Easy minor aspects (quintile, biquintile) have 4 degrees each (2 degree orb either applying or separating, 4 x2= 8 degrees.) Adding 54, 32, 24 and 8 totals 118, 118/ 360= 32.8%.
Mars-Sun gives courage, daring confidence and a love of competition. They have a warrior spirit that will fight with everything they have to achieve their ambition. Mars-Saturn gives self-control, resilience, endurance and willingness to work hard. Mars-Mercury gives good debating skills, intelligence, and ability to think on one’s feet.
Another interesting phenomena worth noting concerns the Mars sign. In this study, Mars in Cancer was the most abundant with 9/67 people having this placement. Runners up were Mars in Capricorn (the sign of Mars exaltation) and Mars in Sagittarius tied at 8/67. Mars in Scorpio (strong in the sign of Mars’ traditional rulership) and Mars in Leo tied for 4th place with 7/67.
Mars is in fall in Cancer, traditionally a planet’s weakest expression. In looking at the top 15 powerful people, 4/15 (27%) have Mars in Cancer. In my opinion, this shows the hidden treasure of what was traditionally thought of as a planet in fall. Planets in fall often feel they have something they have to prove, to overcompensate for this weakness. Mars is the planet of ambition, drive, motivation and power, therefore when it is in Cancer, these people may feel a need to prove these qualities to the world.
Pluto relates to the need for power, control and domination on a micro and macro level. Pluto-Sun (57%), Pluto-Mercury (50%), Pluto-Jupiter (57%) and Pluto-Saturn (60%) are all significant in this study of 68 powerful people. As mentioned in the section for Mars, the prevalence in the general population of having any type of Sun-planet aspect using the orbs in the methodology is 35.6%. The prevalence in the general population of having any type of planet-planet aspect using the orbs in the methodology is 32.8%. Therefore these aspects in this group are 18-27% higher than the general population.
Pluto-Sun gives intensity, ability to read between the lines, passion and ambition. Pluto-Mercury gives concentration, focus and strategic thinking. Pluto-Jupiter gives willpower and determination to succeed. Pluto-Saturn gives discipline, self- reliance and tenacity.
Aaron Spelling is one of television’s most prolific producers, being behind several hit series including Beverley Hills 90210, Charlie’s Angels, The Mod Squad, Melrose Place, Starsky and Hutch, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Dynasty, Twin Peaks and 7th Heaven. He also created several made for television movies such as And the Band Played On’ (1993) (for which he won an Emmy) and Soapdish (1991). Spelling has the Sun conjunct the MC 1 degree from the ninth house indicating that his career could be prominently connected with drama and television/ movie production. His shows were nominated for several Emmy awards, and they won many of them. In 1983 he won a golden globe award for best television series (drama), for his show Dynasty. Aaron has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Mercury at 16 degrees Taurus is in the tenth house. When he was younger, he wrote scripts for several television series, in 1965 he was honoured with a Writers Guild of America Award in 1965. In 1996 he co-wrote a book ‘Aaron Spelling: A Prime-Time Life’, an autobiography. Mars is in Gemini at critical degree 4 Gemini, giving it added strength, in this case he is known for his ambition in the television production field. Mars has given him determination to succeed. The Gemini influence has allowed him the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
The 4th/10th axis is also called the parental axis as sometimes one parent is represented by each house. Traditionally the 10th house is the father and the 4th house is the mother. Sometimes both houses represent both parents. The planets here do not necessarily describe the actual characteristics of the parents. It could be the case that the planet represents how we perceive our parents, even if they do not display those characteristics often or other people wouldn't view them that way. For example Venus in the tenth house could indicate one parent was noted for their good looks, singing ability or had a profession in the beauty industry. It could also indicate that the child perceives their parent as physically attractive, charming and peace-loving.
Aaron Spelling has a daughter named Tori. We can see him reflected in her 4th/10th house axis with the prominent Venus-Neptune opposition, the classical aspect of artistic talent and performance. In fact, any close aspect between Venus and Neptune gives glamour, sophistication, a lot of creative ability, artistic/ and or musical talent, interest in film/ television, and in general enhances the charisma needed to be successful in the entertainment industry. Tori’s 10th house ruler Jupiter at 11 degrees Aquarius is conjunct Aaron’s descendant at 9 degrees Aquarius. Also interesting is that Aaron Spelling’s 5th house cusp is 7 degrees Sagittarius (5th house represents children) and Tori’s Neptune is in the 10th house at 6 degrees Sagittarius. Aaron’s 5th house ruler is Jupiter at 15 degrees Scorpio, this is exactly conjunct Tori’s Moon at 15 degrees Scorpio. Often there are linkages between the 5th house of the parent’s chart to the child’s chart and of the child’s 4th and 10th house to the parent’s chart. These help better understand the karmic purpose and relationship dynamics of the parent-child relationship.
The eleventh house governs wishes, hopes, dreams, desires, friendship, groups, clubs, humanitarian efforts, innovation, inventions, eccentricity, revolutionary thought/ movement and discovery. This is the house where we want to be part of the larger group or cause. People with a prominent 11th house tend to care about disadvantaged groups and making positive changes.
Upton Sinclair was a Pulitzer Prize winning author of over 90 books focused on social injustice and studies of powerful institutions. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel Dragon's Teeth in 1943 which dealt with the Nazi takeover of Germany in the 1930s.Sinclairwrote ‘In the Jungle’ which exposed the harsh, unsanitary conditions of the meatpacking industry. This led to the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act being put into practice. In 1908, he wrote ‘The Metropolis’ and ‘The Money Changers’ in which he encouraged people to think about the evils of a capitalistic country. In 1917, he exposed the dangerous conditions of the coal mines in ‘King Coal’ and in 1927 he wrote ‘Oil!’ which discussed the dangerous conditions in this industry. Oil served as the basis for the Academy Award winning film 'There Will Be Blood'. The 11th house ruler Mercury is exalted (giving a talent for verbal/ written communication) and it is conjunct Uranus which makes him unafraid to expose these shocking conditions and to be a catalyst for change.
Sinclair has a 1 degree conjunction of Sun and Mars in Virgo in the 11th house. People who have a Sun-Mars conjunction are fighters, they are direct in their approach and usually won’t back down. They may be aggressive in voicing their opinions at times, especially if there are unfair conditions or injustices. Notice that Mercury in its own sign Virgo makes a 3 degree conjunction to the 11th house cusp from the 10th house. This is an excellent position for an author with the hardworking and detailed oriented nature that it takes to write 90 books. Mercury influences both his tenth house of career as well as his 11th house of social change, in a literal way he made a career (10th) of writing (Mercury) about social change (11th).
The 11th house governs our interactions with groups. Planets connected with this house show how we tend to interact with groups. Planets connected with this house show what types of traits we find desirable in friends. To illustrate, Mercury here can place importance on lively intellectual discussions. The Moon is looking for emotional support, a nurturer and someone who intuitively knows how to make them feel secure. People who have many planets here usually place a great deal of importance on original thought and action. They see possibilities not apparent to most people and create a vision of realizing their hopes and wishes.
The twelfth house governs spirituality, enlightenment, karma, isolation, hidden enemies, grief, loss, anxiety, collective unconscious and self-undoing. Here is where we lose our personal boundaries and seek to merge with God through meditation, prayer and worship. We feel compassion towards underprivileged people. People with a strong 12th house may sometimes find themselves able to access hidden dimensions of knowledge.
The 12th house is where we go to be by ourselves either willingly or unwillingly, it governs institutions such as hospitals, prisons, mental institutions, and spiritual retreat centers. We should do solitary activities such as yoga, meditation, dream work and anything that helps us find the peace within. In the 7th house we can see our open enemies but in the 12th house, we have trouble seeing our secret enemies. Another interpretation is that planets here can represent the unconscious ways in which we sabotage ourselves; you may say one thing but deep down you feel another and, in the end, the deeper feelings have a stronger pull on behaviour.
The 12th house represents what seems on the surface to be unfair circumstances but in reality it is our karmic inheritance. These situations can cause a lot of grief while they are happening but do offer opportunity for spiritual growth.
This is the house of the collective unconscious. There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come. People with a strong 12th house have the talent to release work into the world that transforms our collective psyche.
The houses all interact with each other in terms of house rulership, the planet that rules any given house will be placed in either that house or another house. When it is placed in another house it creates a link between the two houses. For example, the ruler of the MC placed in the second house usually means that a person’s career has something to do with matters of the second house. It could also denote that the person values stability and security in their career.
Julie Andrews is well known for her roles in The Sound of Music and Victor/Victoria, both of which she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress; as well Mary Poppins where she won the Oscar for Best Actress. She had an impressive four octave voice since she was a child that allowed her to become a star in musicals where she both sang and acted. Julie’s MC ruler is Mercury which represents communications and it is placed in the second house. The sign Cancer is intercepted in the tenth house and its ruler Moon is also placed in the second house, although not conjunct Mercury. Since both planets ruling the tenth house of career are in the second house, we know that second house activities might play a role in her career. Thus it makes sense that she has achieved success as a professional singer and has become famous for her voice. Taurus rules the throat and Taurus' natural house is the second.
