How to Choose Suitable Careers Using Astronumerology

"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant  forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a  greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be."
- Patanjali

"Each man has his own vocation; his talent is his call. There is one direction in which all space is open to him."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track, which has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living."
- Joseph Campbell

When a person is engaged in a career that they love and that makes the best use of their talents, their whole life is more filled with passion, purpose and joy. Although the chart must be looked at holistically to give a complete picture, the tenth house in Astrology is of primary importance in delineating suitable careers. The tenth house represents public persona and reputation, status, power, career, accomplishments, recognition, awards, fame, glory and honor. The sixth house in Astrology concerns a person’s job, something they must do to make a living but which they do not necessarily enjoy, nor does it fulfill their life purpose. In contrast, the career is something a person enjoys doing and has a passion for, often something they feel is in line with their life’s purpose. One can never guess an exact career just by looking at a person's chart; there are a myriad amount of expressions for every placement. However, what you can see are talents, proclivities, and what a person is most comfortable doing.

Astrology

1.  When analyzing the tenth house, consider the sign on the MC (tenth house cusp) and its ruler. For example if someone has Taurus on the MC, the ruler is Venus. We  could say that this person will enjoy stability/ steadiness (Taurus) in their career and choose a career which can provide them with material comforts and  luxury (Venus). They might also choose an artistic/ entertainment career (Venus) or musical career (Taurus).

2.  Look at the placement of the MC ruler, what sign and house is it in? The sign and house provides extra information about the characteristics and values that are important to the person. If this person’s Venus is in Gemini they will value  learning, flexibility, diversity and multitasking. They like to be involved in several projects at the same time. If Venus is in the ninth house they will likely be interested in higher education, the outdoors, sports travel, religion and philosophy.

3.  Look  at the aspects that the MC ruler makes to other planets and their orb of influence (the tighter the orb, the more powerful the placement). If Venus is making a conjunction within 2 degrees to Mercury, the person might be attracted to a career in communications/ broadcasting, be an author, teacher etc.

4.  What aspects does the degree of the MC make? If you have your MC at 25 degrees Taurus making a trine to Mars and an opposition with Neptune, these planets will be important in your career. The influence of Mars may manifest by an attraction to physically challenging careers, competing with others professionally or playing professional sports.  The influence of Neptune may manifest as an attraction to careers involving imagination, creativity, music, art, poetry, entertainment, spirituality, mysticism, fantasy, bodies of water etc.

 5.  What are the planets in the tenth house? These planets will also influence a person’s choice of career. If the Sun is in the tenth house, the person would like to be recognized and rewarded publicly for their efforts. They need to be in a position of authority and respect, otherwise they may be unhappy. They enjoy receiving attention. It is important to note that having no planets in the tenth house does not mean that career is unimportant to the person or that they will not receive as much career success as a person with many planets in the tenth. For example, Barack Obama,  Pope  Benedict XVI and Sonia Gandhi are high on the list of Forbes most powerful people in 2012 but they all have an empty tenth house.

The following is part of an astrological chart analysis for a young woman who is interested in pursuing social work as a career. Due to privacy reasons her chart can not be posted online.

You have an Aquarian MC which gives you a talent for dealing with people from all walks of life as well as a tendency towards humanitarian careers. You will enjoy dealing with groups of people and society at large. The Sun and Venus are in the 11th house (Aquarius has a natural affinity with this house) so it strengthens this tendency.

The  ruler of your tenth house is Saturn which is in Pisces (gives you compassion and empathy for the less privileged and desire to help them). Saturn is one degree from the 11th house (planets near cusps have more strength than planets in the houses generally) which again shows the humanitarian interest, the desire to  impact groups of people and society at large. Saturn makes an exact trine with the moon, which will enhance your popularity and ability to relate to people. Saturn makes an exact opposition to Chiron which is a strong indicator that your career must involve the themes of wounding, fears based in childhood, and rejection but also the healing of those wounds and personal growth.

Mars is 4 degrees from making an opposition to your MC. Mars gives you the determination, ambition, stamina and energy to fight to reach your goals. Mars can also represent your fight to help people in need by championing their rights, you can become a vocal spokesperson for a cause that is dear to your heart.

The following is part of an astrological chart analysis for a man interested in producing and creating music. Due to privacy reasons, his chart can not be posted online.

There are a lot of indicators for musical ability in your chart. Pisces and Taurus are the signs most related to musical ability. Your MC is at 29 degrees Pisces and Mars in Taurus is in the tenth house. Many times when people are very successful at music in their career, Neptune is linked with the tenth house in some way. Neptune at 5 degrees Sagittarius is making an out of sign 6 degree trine with the MC degree. The ruler of your MC is Neptune and it is conjunct Venus in the fifth house. The Venus-Neptune aspect gives an abundance of creativity and imagination on its own. This talent is enhanced by the combination being in the fifth house of creativity. Moreover, Mars in Taurus is quincunx within 3 degrees the Venus-Neptune which gives you another link between the creativity and career houses.

Regarding your writing ability, your Moon in Gemini, Pluto in the third house and Mercury in Scorpio gives you a good mix of lightness and depth in lyrics. The Moon in Gemini helps you to communicate your ideas in a way that other people can easily understand and the Pluto in third could mean that your writing has a transformative effect on people. Your Mercury also makes a partile quincunx to the Moon which should drive you to channel your most honest emotions into your writing and connect with a larger audience.

The Sun-Uranus conjunction in Libra shows out of the box thinking in an artistic manner. This should help you to come up with truly unique messages and themes that you want to convey through lyrics as opposed to what has been traditionally done before or relying on the cookie cutter formula that many artists use to sell music. It is in an out of sign opposition with your MC at 29 Pisces, showing the connection with career.

The following is part of an astrological analysis for a woman entering University to study Nursing. Due to privacy reasons her chart can not be posted online.

Chiron which represents wounding and healing is making a 7 degree opposition with your MC. People with Chiron aspecting the MC are often attracted to positions where they can help other people by restoring their physical or mental health.

You have Pisces-Virgo on your AC-DC which gives you the genuine orientation towards being of service to others and the ability to do behind the scenes work without needing to receive recognition. Mercury is in partile conjunction with the AC. Mercury in this prominent position gives you the gift for communicating, this is an asset wherever you work. Both the MC ruler Jupiter and the MC degree aspect Mercury, showing that your communication talents should be put to very good use in your career, perhaps through teaching, giving presentations, writing for journals/magazines, or  in the media.

Both the MC ruler Jupiter and the MC degree aspect Venus and Saturn. The Venus aspect could give you the ability for excellent bedside manner and making people feel warm and welcome. The Saturn aspect could give you the endurance to face the less pleasant realities of your job, the willingness to work hard and the discipline to overcome obstacles placed in your way.

The twelfth house and Pisces is connected with nursing elements such as hospitals and illness, isolation, work that is not usually noticed if done well but if it isn't done would leave a critical gap, service to others and compassion for those experiencing grief and sadness. Your MC ruler Jupiter is in the 12th house in Pisces. The ruler of your twelfth house Uranus is conjunct your MC by 5 degrees. Therefore, the connection between your twelfth house and tenth house of career is  strong.

The eighth house is associated with medicine, healing, death, regeneration and deep transformation. You have Pluto and the Moon here. Pluto as the catalyst for transformation is naturally at home in this house and suggests you could play a major role in transforming lives by assisting people from ill health to good health. The Moon suggests that you have an emotional investment in doing so, helping others in this manner satisfies your own emotional needs.

The following is part of an astrological chart analysis of famous fashion icons Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn. Both of their styles are timelessly elegant and widely admired and each of them left a legacy that will never be forgotten.

Picture
Picture
Both Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn have Pluto in the fifth house of creativity and unique/ individual expression which is essential for fashion design. This suggests that they have the potential to use their creativity for transformation in society, in this case fashion design was the vehicle for the transformation. We always notice that the dominant fashion trends reveal a lot about the values of society in any given decade.

Since Neptune is the planet of glamour, imagination, fantasy, inspiration and art, a prominent Neptune is essential to be successful in fashion design. Audrey has Neptune exactly on the descendant and Coco has it approximately 2 degrees from the fifth house. The ruler of Audrey's MC (Jupiter) makes a square of 8 degrees with Neptune. In addition, Jupiter also makes a 4 degree sextile to Pluto in the fifth house. The ruler of Coco's MC  (Venus) makes a square of 3.5 degrees with Neptune in the fifth house. In addition, Venus makes a sextile of 8 degrees to Saturn in the fifth house. Thus we can see the relationship between Neptune, the career house (10th) and the creativity house (5th).

Since Venus is the planet of beauty, aesthetics, fashion, artistic expression, sophistication and sensuality, it is fitting that it be connected to the career and creativity houses in both ladies charts. Audrey's MC ruler Jupiter makes a 2 degree semisextile to Venus. Her fifth house ruler Moon makes a 1 degree semisquare to Venus. Coco's tenth and fifth house ruler is Venus.

The signs Leo, Pisces, Taurus and Libra also relate to fashion design and creativity as their rulers are Sun, Neptune and Venus respectively. Audrey has Neptune in Leo, the Moon in Pisces and a Jupiter-Sun-North Node conjunction in Taurus. Coco has Neptune in Taurus, a Sun-Venus conjunction in Leo and Moon in Pisces.

The Sun as the ruler of  Leo represents creative expression and individuality and is naturally at home in the fifth house. When there are connections between the Sun and the fifth house it accentuates out of the box thinking. The ruler of Audrey's fifth house (Moon) makes a 7 degree sextile with the Sun. The ruler  of Coco's fifth house (Venus) makes a 9 degree conjunction with the Sun. The Sun is also connected with the MC rulers in both charts, this helps to get a person
recognition/ distinction in their career or public standing. The ruler of Audrey's MC Jupiter makes a 7.5 degree conjunction with the Sun. The ruler of  Coco's tenth house Venus makes a 9 degree conjunction with the Sun.

In  short, the planets Sun, Venus and Neptune, the signs Leo, Taurus, Pisces and Leo and the tenth and fifth houses are usually connected when a person has a successful career in fashion design.

The following is an astrological chart analysis of world renowned entertainer Barbra Streisand. Barbra is one of the most successful musical artists and entertainers of all time, she is one of the few people who have won all the major prestigious awards: Oscar, Emmy, Tony, Golden Globe, Peabody and Grammy.

Picture
The signs Taurus and Pisces are most related to musical ability. She has her Sun, Mercury, Saturn and Uranus in Taurus and Venus in Pisces.

Her MC is 4 Capricorn, she presents a public image of being practical, conservative, traditional, down to earth and  hardworking. She is not known for crazy outfits, stunts or behavior, rather it is simply her beautiful voice that has kept the public in adoration of her. Her MC ruler is Saturn, she expects to work hard for her success and does not expect anything handed to her. She is willing to put in the effort to achieve high status and respect in her career. Saturn is in Taurus highlighting a potential career in music. In addition, Taurus loves beautiful things and creature comforts so it is expected that she wants a career that can give her these things. Saturn is placed in the 2nd house tightly conjunct Uranus indicating that one move in her career could catapult her to success and earn her significant amounts of money in a sudden or unexpected manner.  Her very first album “The Barbra Streisand Album” won 2 Grammy awards in 1963.

Often when people are very successful over a lifetime in music, art or entertainment, Neptune is connected with the tenth house or otherwise prominent in the chart. The MC at 4 degrees Capricorn makes a 7 degree out of sign square with Neptune at 27 Virgo. Saturn makes a trine with Neptune within one degree. Neptune makes 7 aspects to other planets in her chart showing that Neptune’s characteristics are very well developed. Neptune has given her the vision, glamour, imagination and artistic talent that has kept people fascinated with her throughout her career. Neptune is conjunct the Vertex out of sign by 6 degrees so there was a sense of destiny to her rise to stardom. It was a major part of her true life’s  purpose.

Regarding fame, there is no chart signature that is common among all famous people. However, there are some factors that will help people become famous or at least well respected in their field. Her MC degree makes a whopping 9 aspects to planets (10 is the maximum amount of planetary aspects to the MC and five of her aspects are within one degree). When the MC ruler is either not making any major aspects (singleton) or is making numerous aspects, it also inclines a person to fame and/or significant success. Saturn (MC ruler) in her chart makes 6 aspects of which 4 of them are less than a degree, indeed a very powerful inclination towards fame and success.

Numerology

You can study your core numbers, life path, birthday, soul urge, personality, and expression to make your career analysis even more comprehensive. Take into consideration the strengths and talents of each of your core numbers but especially the life path. The life path is calculated by adding the month, day and year of your birth. For example, if you were born June 25, 1972, you add 6 + 7+ 1+9+7+2= 5. Your life path would be 5. If a number repeats more than once, pay special attention as you have an especially strong strength in this area.

Number 1: You are best suited for a career where you can function independently and autonomously, preferably in a position of leadership. You do well when you are self-employed or running your own business. Although you are capable of working in a team, it is preferable for you to work alone because you do not like to compromise your thoughts/beliefs when making decisions or when working on projects. You do not like to follow established traditions and like to blaze new trails in your field. You greatly enjoy being a position of high status and authority and thrive on others recognizing you for your accomplishments.

Number 2: You are best suited for a career that makes the best use of your people skills, diplomacy and negotiating talents. You can easily see both sides of a situation. You are not suited for jobs that do not include interacting with people on a regular basis. You thrive when working on teams because you enjoy bouncing your ideas off of other people, incorporating their ideas with your own and presenting a final product that presents the best from every person’s contribution. You genuinely like to listen to people talk about their lives so you may enjoy working in a helping profession.

Number 3: You are best suited for careers that allow you to express your creativity, entertain others, allow expression of your philosophical/ religious/spiritual beliefs and that allow you opportunity to travel /interact with foreigners. You may have musical, artistic and/or comedic talent that would be best expressed in theatre, television, dancing, singing, playing a musical instrument, radio, or movies for example. Careers that involve local or international travel satisfy your wanderlust and sense of adventure. In contrast to your humorous, fun loving exterior, you may spend a good amount of time thinking about the deeper philosophical questions of life. You may be inclined to pursue a religious/spiritual career that allows you to investigate these questions in detail.

Number 4: You are best suited for careers that offer a steady, predictable work schedule and salary, have a set routine and that have detailed directions for completing tasks. You do well in a system that has a clearly defined hierarchy where everyone’s roles and responsibilities are clearly outlined. You are excellent at following through on tasks until they are completed and are not likely to give up due to difficulty or boredom. Your organizational ability, strong work ethic and attention to detail makes you a very valuable asset anywhere you work.

Number 5: You are best suited for a career that capitalizes on your excellent communication skills, ability to sell, write or teach. You do well when presenting ideas to the public; public relations, advertising and marketing work well. You enjoy working with facts and logic so careers involving science, computers or research may be a good fit. You greatly enjoy travel and a career that allows you to explore the world and interact with people from different cultures is well suited to you. You easily get bored and variety is the spice of life , so you may find yourself doing multiple careers at once or switching fields more often than most people.

Number 6: You are best suited for careers that make use of your eye for beauty, your creativity, your compassion and your desire to be of service to others. You have excellent taste in selecting what is beautiful and for this reason would do well in interior decoration, the fashion industry, the makeup/hairstyling industry or graphic design. You often have artistic or musical talents that would be put to good use in playing an instrument, singing, dancing, and performance or visual arts. Your compassion and desire to be of service could propel you towards a career in a helping profession such as a doctor, nurse, rehabilitation professional, social worker, and psychologist, working at a non-profit / charitable organization or religious / spiritual institution. You have a talent for entrepreneurship and might also be a successful business owner.

Number 7: You are best suited for careers that make use of your investigative mind, writing skills, research talent and healing ability. You are excellent at analyzing things, thus any type of research or detective work is a good fit. You love to learn and because you tend to pursue advanced degrees, you may become a professor in university/college. Although you value your solitude, you are genuinely interested in listening to other people’s problems and have a natural healing ability. Thus similar to number 6, your desire to be of service could propel you towards being a doctor, nurse, rehabilitation professional, social worker, psychologist or working at a  non-profit/ charitable organization.

Number 8: You are best suited for careers where you can steadily climb a hierarchy or assume a powerful position. You are comfortable being in the public eye and present yourself well. You are well suited for a corporate career, banking, finance, law, accounting, or owning your own business. You probably enjoy investing so you may be a financial advisor, real estate agent or do work in the stock market.  Regardless of which field you are in, you are ambitious and desire to be seen as an expert in your field.

Number 9: You are best suited for careers involving leadership, religion/spirituality, humanitarian pursuits, teaching, and creativity. You long to make a positive difference in the world and are attracted to positions that will enable you to help people you feel are in need. Regardless of which profession you are in, you may gain satisfaction from volunteering your professional services in a third world country. You may be attracted to the teaching profession, where you feel you have a major part in shaping young minds and helping them reach their best potential. You may have artistic and musical gifts that are expressed through singing, playing an instrument or through visual and performance arts. Religion and spirituality may be important to you and you may spend a good deal of time studying books on these topics, meditating or being active in services.
