Money can’t buy us happiness but no one can deny it makes life more pleasant. Whether it is for personal freedom to spend your time as you wish, luxury vacations, an early retirement, a desire for beautiful material comforts, a desire to fund humanitarian causes, a dream home or a desire to see your loved ones’ dreams come true, money helps us achieve all these things. The potential for accumulating money is shown in various areas of your natal chart. There are some astrological aspects and numbers that have significantly more of an association with acquiring money than others. This is due to the combined energy of the two planets and the numbers’ vibrations.
The 35 billionaires were taken in order according to Forbes Billionaire List 2012 (1). On Forbes original list of billionaires, there were people who inherited their fortune from their parent or spouse. Given this study’s focus on self made billionaires, these people were excluded in favour of their deceased grandparent, parent or spouse who made the fortune (see notes below).
The birthdays and birth cities of all billionaires are taken from their personal entries on the English Wikipedia (2). The Rodden Ratings are employed to classify sources of birth data (3). Five billionaires had accurate birth times listed (Rodden Rating of A or AA). A standard 12:00 p.m. birth time is used for the other 30 as they did not have known birth times published (Rodden Rating of X). Since the birth time is unknown for the vast majority, only planetary patterns (including the Sun) and North Node aspects are analyzed for all billionaires. The Moon and astrological houses cannot be analyzed.
The aspects used in this study are the: conjunction, opposition, square, trine, sextile, sesquiquadrate, quincunx, semisextile, sesquisquare, quintile and biquintile. In this study the orbs used for Sun’s conjunctions, squares and oppositions are 10 degrees; for sextiles and trines it is 9 degrees. The orbs used for planets’ conjunction, square and opposition are 9 degrees; for sextiles and trines it is 8 degrees. For both the Sun-planet and the planet-planet connections on hard minor aspects (semisextile, sesquiquadrate, quincunx, sesquisquare), the orb is 3 degrees. For both the Sun-planet and the planet-planet connections on easy minor aspects (quintile or biquintile), the orb is 2 degrees. The letter (w) appears beside the degrees to denote a wide aspect. This is used to inform the reader that the aspect is 1 degree over the permitted orb (4) but still has influence to a lesser degree. The number of times a planetary combination occurs in the sample is tallied to show its significance.
Solar Fire is the astrological software used for the calculation of astrological charts. The letter d is used to denote degrees. If an aspect is 36 minutes or more of a degree, it is rounded up to the next degree; if it is 35 minutes or less of a degree, it is rounded down to the nearest degree. For example, if an aspect is 1 degree and 37 minutes, it is denoted as 2d; if an aspect is 3 degrees and 25 minutes, it is denoted as 3d. The average orb for each planetary combination is calculated to show its power. The lesser number of degrees (tighter aspects) signifies a more powerful aspect. The letters NN are used to denote North Node. Although an aspect to the North Node means that there is another aspect of the same strength to the South Node (except for quintiles and biquintiles), only the aspect that a planet makes to the North Node is included to simplify the calculations.
The Life Path and Birthday numbers in Numerology are calculated to see which numbers appear most often in the charts of billionaires. The Expression number, Soul Urge number and Personality number are equally important in shaping character but since the birth certificate names of the vast majority of billionaires are not readily available, they are not included in the analysis. Since there are 35 billionaires, calculating two numbers for each would give a total of 70 numbers. Numbers were tallied together, regardless of whether it was the Life Path or Birthday number.

An aspect is termed partile (exact) when the distance from one planet to the other planet is some number of full signs apart (e.g. 120 degrees is 4 full signs). Partile aspects are most powerful. Otherwise, an aspect is either applying (moving towards being exact) or separating (it was exact in the past and is moving away from being exact). We use orbs to tell us how powerful an aspect is, the tighter the orb, the more powerful its effects in a person's life.
The prevalence in the general population of having any type of Sun-planet aspect using the orbs in the methodology is 35.6%. There are 20 degrees each for conjunctions, oppositions and squares (10 degree orb allowed applying or separating 20 x 3= 60 degrees). Sextiles and trines have 18 degrees each (9 degree orb either applying or separating, 18 x 2= 36 degrees.) Hard minor aspects (sesquiquadrate, semisextile, quincunx, semisquare) have 6 degrees each (3 degree orb either applying or separating, 6 x 4=24). Easy minor aspects (quintile, biquintile) have 4 degrees each (2 degree orb either applying or separating, 4x2=8). There are 360 degrees in the zodiac. Adding 60, 36, 24 and 8 totals 128, 128/ 360= 35.6% .
The prevalence in the general population of having any type of planet-planet aspect using the orbs in the methodology is 32.8%. There are 18 degrees each for oppositions, squares and conjunctions (9 degree orb either applying or separating, 18 x 3= 54 degrees). Sextiles and trines have 16 degrees each (8 degree orb either applying or separating, 16x 2=32 degrees.) Hard minor aspects (sesquiquadrate, semisextile, quincunx, semisquare) have 6 degrees each (3 degree orb either applying or separating, 6x 4=24 degrees). Easy minor aspects (quintile, biquintile) have 4 degrees each (2 degree orb either applying or separating, 4 x2= 8 degrees.) Adding 54, 32, 24 and 8 totals 118, 118/ 360= 32.8%.

There are a total of 17 significant aspects (including the North Node aspects). The billionaires have an average of 9.83 significant aspects. The median is 10 aspects. The mode is 10 aspects. The minimum is 6 aspects and the maximum is 13 aspects. The average orb for all 17 significant aspects is 3.04 degrees. In comparison, the expected average number of aspects in the general population is 5.78 (.34 x 17=5.78).
14. Tie between Sun-Pluto 17/35= 49% (average orb 4.18 degrees) and Mars-Saturn 17/35=49% (average orb 2.76 degrees)
16. Sun-Jupiter: 13/35 = 37% (not significant)
Another point of significance is the nodal aspects to Mercury and Uranus. In this study the 31% (11/35) of billionaires who have Uranus in aspect to the nodes have an average orb of 1.18 degrees. The 31% (11/35) billionaires who have Mercury in aspect to the nodes had an average orb of 2.27 degrees. In the general population, the likelihood of having this close nodal aspect to Uranus is 7.3%. Using a 1.2 degree orb applying and separating for all 11 major and minor aspects for Uranus, this would be 2.4 degrees for each aspect (1.2 x 2=2.4 degrees), 2.4 x 11= 26.4, 26.4/ 360=7.3%. In the general population, only 14.1% of people have this close nodal aspect to Mercury. Assuming a 2.3 degree orb applying and separating for all 11 major and minor aspects for Mercury, this would be 4.6 degrees for each aspect (2.3 x 2= 4.6 degrees orb), 4.6 x 11= 50.6, 50.6/360= 14.1%.
Nodal aspects were calculated for the Sun, Jupiter and Pluto, but only 7/35 billionaires or fewer for each planet were found, thus it was not significant and is not included.

The following is a description of each of the astrological aspects that have been traditionally linked to attracting money:
Venus-Neptune: Neptune brings the idealism, imagination, fantasy and glamour. Venus brings the love of a luxurious lifestyle, materialistic comforts and beautiful surroundings. It is no surprise this aspect tops the list, as people with Venus-Neptune aspects are most likely of all to live the most glamorous and fantasy filled lives that we commonly observe in celebrities and in the movies. Their faith is strong that their dreams will come true and they often act as they are who they aspire to become and already have what they aspire to have. Their imagination and vision for their life is extremely vivid and they have high expectations.
Venus-Saturn: This is the classic business man or woman’s aspect, there is a sharp understanding of how best to create, expand and constantly improve a business and pick the right investments. The risks they take are astute and well executed. They are not easily fooled by false charm and affection, therefore it is not easy to swindle or dupe them. There is the combination of love of material comforts and innate understanding of consumer preferences (Venus) with discipline, structure, strong work ethic and persistence (Saturn).
Venus-Jupiter: This is the combination of the greater benefic Jupiter with the lesser benefic Venus, it brings luck, prosperity, generosity, extravagance, love of material comforts, grand scale thinking and optimism. People with this aspect are not afraid to take big risks that others may not take.
Venus-Pluto: People with this aspect have emotional intensity and passion that is arguably the strongest of all aspects. They also have a tendency to become obsessive and/or compulsive about a goal that is important to them and will devote their heart and soul single mindedly to it until it is accomplished. When they effectively channel their passion and emotional intensity into their personal goals, it is no surprise they meet with tremendous success. Moreover, they often receive public recognition for their work.
Jupiter-Uranus: This is the aspect of sudden and unexpected gains. By picking the right investment or taking the right risk, the business or investments could make tons of money over a very short time period. Uranus represents innovative thinking, pioneering ideas and revolution and Jupiter expands any planet it aspects. As a result, this combination produces the pioneering and creative ideas that are the fodder for successful business enterprises.
Venus-Uranus: Venus represents money and material luxuries, Uranus represents sudden and unexpected gains. When combining the two, it is natural that this combination has been associated with sudden gains of material luxury and money.
Jupiter-Neptune: Neptune is the planet most associated with dreams and vivid imagination. Jupiter brings the optimism and good fortune. When combining the two planets, the book by James Allen “As a Man Thinketh” (6) describes this aspect well because it signifies people who have dream big, have a grand vision for their life and keep their mind optimistically focused on it. As a result of truly believing in themselves, their thinking often creates their prosperous reality.
Jupiter-Pluto: This aspect has been associated with accumulating massive wealth and power. Pluto represents desire for power and control and since Jupiter expands any planet it aspects, the desire for power and control is strong. One way to get power is through money, thus they have a drive to accumulate enough money so they can be the one calling the shots. People with this aspect have strong convictions. They will hold strong to their ideals and persist in following their dreams.
Aspects that were found to be significant in this study but not traditionally connected to attracting money:
A Mercury-Mars aspect tied for the aspect most commonly seen in the billionaires' charts. Mercury-Mars is likely prominent because it gives a very sharp intellect, a persuasive way of words, excellent critical thinking skills, a direct communication style, quick wit and a very energetic mind. They make formidable opponents in a debate and get passionate when fighting for a cause or an issue that is dear to them. Tom Petty's song "I won't back down" (7) is a good description of this aspect.
Sun-Mars: The Sun represents our life force, ego, basic essence and individuality. Mars represents action, aggression, ambition, drive, power and guts. People with a Sun-Mars aspect have a burning drive to turn their dreams into reality and have the stamina to work until they achieve it. They create their own opportunities and are courageous enough to take big risks. Even when their risks fail to work out, they do not waste any time in self-pity; they start working on their next goal with even greater determination. They thrive on competition; it gets their juices flowing to win!
Sun-Saturn: The psychology of this aspect is not primarily interested in making money nor does it directly attract money. However, I think the reason why so many billionaires have it is because it bestows high ambition and the willingness to work very hard for everything you get. People with Sun-Saturn do not expect anything handed to them. They set very high goals and put pressure on themselves to achieve them. This is because they have an innate desire to be recognized as an expert in their field.
Sun-Uranus: This aspect signifies people that are independent, original and very creative. They have the ability to think of products and services that are truly unique and fill in major gaps currently in the marketplace. They enjoy doing things no one else has tried before; it makes it more exciting for them! They often question tradition and always ask themselves if things can be done better than the way they are being done now. This is the key characteristic that helps them constantly refine their existing products and services so that they better meet the needs of consumers.
Sun-Pluto: People who have this aspect have a very strong innate desire for power and control (Pluto) as part of their basic essence (Sun). Further, they have an intense need for personal accomplishment, they are highly critical of themselves and constantly seek to improve their work and achieve new goals. Since money and power are usually intertwined, they will tirelessly work on their personal goals.
Mercury-Uranus: Mercury represents our thinking style and Uranus represents originality, genius and revolution, put together this aspect is naturally found in many of society’s most brilliant inventors and discoverers. To make multiple billions of dollars definitely requires someone who sees future possibilities not apparent to the crowd.
Mars-Saturn: The joining of two malefic planets makes luck hard to come by for people with this aspect. Fortunately, they have an uncanny ability to recover from defeat and emerge stronger than ever. Their innate perseverance, patience and self discipline are among the fiercest of all planetary combinations. They know that they must work hard for everything they get and they often work long and hard hours to achieve their objectives. The saying by Seneca “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity” (8) is an apt description of this aspect.
Mercury or Uranus aspects to the Nodes: The nodes represent karmic situations and special talents. With Mercury aspecting the nodes, a person has a sharp intellect, a talent for marketing/ advertising and the potential to be an excellent communicator. With Uranus aspecting the nodes, a person innovative ideas, a pioneering nature and a desire to make their mark on the world.
The Life path number tells us about a person's natural gifts and skills and what course of action you need to take in this life to be happy. This number is reflective of our purpose in life, by acting in accordance with it life flows a lot more easily. It is calculated by adding the month, day and year of birth. January is 1, February is 2, and March is 3...etc up to December being 12. For example, if you were born August 14th 1958, you add 8 (August) + 14 + 1+9+5+8= 45= 9.
The birthday number shows our personality characteristics, natural tendencies, challenges, relationship preferences and what we like and dislike.
Born on 1st, 10th, 19th or 28th of the month, your birthday number is one.
Born on 2nd, 11th, 20th or 29th of the month, your birthday number is two.
Born on 3rd, 12th, 21st or 30th of the month your birthday number is three.
Born on 4th, 13th, 22nd or 31st of the month, your birthday number is four.
Born on the 5th, 14th or 23rd of the month, your birthday number is five.
Born on the 6th, 15th or 24th of the month, your birthday number is six.
Born on the 7th, 16th or 25th of the month, your birthday number is seven.
Born on the 8th, 17th or 26th of the month, your birthday number is eight.
Born on the 9th, 18th or 27th of the month, your birthday number is nine.
The results show that number 5 is most commonly seen in the numerology chart of billionaires. Number 5 is one of the numbers most traditionally linked with attracting money so this result is expected. The number 5 represents adventure, risk taking and willingness to gamble. There is no other number that will take a bigger risk than 5, and because they take the biggest risks, they receive the largest rewards. They have the most luck of all the numbers in all matters of speculation (e.g. real estate, investments, casino gambling). Number 5 people, having an affinity with the planet Mercury, thus they love to learn. They are able to constantly develop the latest innovative products and services that meet the needs of diverse people worldwide.
There are no numbers that are considered “unlucky” for attracting money. Different numbers have their own characteristics, values and priorities and do not have the natural tendency to place as much attention on acquiring money.
Some astrological aspects and numbers are significantly more prevalent in the billionaires’ charts than others. This is due to the combination of two planet’s energies and different numbers’ characteristics. In astrology, all eight traditional aspects that were theoretically explained or analyzed using a handful of sample charts in prior publications have been shown in a relatively large sample size to be practically relevant. In addition, nine more aspects (Sun-Mars, Sun-Pluto, Mercury-Uranus, Sun-Saturn, Mars-Saturn Mercury-Mars, Sun-Uranus, Mercury-North Node, Uranus-North Node) that were not linked to attracting money previously were shown to have practical relevance. In numerology, the number 5 that has been theoretically linked to speculation and risk taking has been shown to be most common among billionaires.
An important thing to keep in mind when interpreting these results is that a person’s astrological aspects and numbers show their potential. Differences in personal effort and environmental factors will determine the actual extent of success in the world. A suitable analogy is a person’s Intelligence Quotient. Several studies (9,10) found that IQ is 40- 50% heritable (biological siblings reared together) and that percentage increases with age. The environment that a person was raised in, their unique life experiences and the opportunities (or lack thereof) that they were given throughout life account for the rest of the variance. A person’s Astronumerology chart is similar to their genes. Someone with fewer of the money attracting aspects and/or aspects with wider orbs may accumulate more money than someone with more money attracting aspects and tighter orbs; they will just have to work harder to do it. For example, Amancio Ortega only had 6 astrological money aspects, yet he is number 5 on the list of 35 billionaires. All the billionaires who currently rank below him in this study have 7- 13 money attracting aspects. Even if you have many favourable aspects in a tight orb, it is necessary to work hard and be persistent when working on goals. Although success comes easier, nothing will manifest out of thin air!
The astrological houses also play an important role in a person’s wealth potential. The 2nd (earned income/ personal resources), 4th (money from real estate), 5th (gambling and speculation) , 8th (shared income/ inheritances/ windfalls), 10th (money earned as a result of public standing/ career) and 11th (dreams/ money from groups/ winning money) astrological houses are associated with finances and need to be analyzed for a more accurate and complete picture. In numerology, statistically it has been shown that number five is most likely to attract money and having many 5s will make it easier to do so. However, simply because one has many 5s in their core number chart does not guarantee by itself to attract money, personal effort must be made and astrological factors must concur. Likewise, numbers 2 and 9 statistically have been shown to be least likely to attract money. However, if a person makes significant effort and successfully overcomes their obstacles, in addition to possessing favourable astrological factors, they can certainly accumulate money as well.
