![]() A hearty congratulations to Leonardo DiCaprio for his Best Actor win at the Oscars this past Sunday! He’s been one of my favourite actors for years, and with every performance takes himself to new heights of excellence. Many of his past performances were certainly deserving of the Oscar win, yet as a mystery to many, and despite being nominated six times, his first win was just this past Sunday (Saturn in its detriment Cancer and retrograde in his 10th house tends to make his recognition overdue). However, Saturn in the 10th does eventually reward hard work and perseverance. It was only Sunday that the stars were aligned perfectly to bring out the big win. In Leo’s chart we see a tremendous natal promise for success, power, glory, happiness and riches. On Sunday, the planets in the sky activated this natal promise and brought him a dream come true. The natal promise for fame can be seen many times in his chart. He has four planets in the 1st house and Saturn in the 10th house, and numerous aspects and connections between the 1st house and 10th house. Saturn in the 10th house is the lead planet of his locomotive shaped chart, showing a significantly high importance placed on career and public standing. These influences serve to bring him awards and accolades in his career and cause people to admire him in a professional sense.
I have noticed for a long time that actors/ actresses tend to get the highest personal recognition for roles that are a reflection of their natal chart, that is the role touches a part of their true personality. In the Revenant, Leo plays a character named Hugh Glass, a frontiersman that is brutally attacked by a bear, is found by his hunting team in critical condition but they purposely leave him for dead in the wilderness. The movie details his struggle for survival, his quest to find his attacker and ultimately what he does when he gets the opportunity to get even. Leo has Pluto as the closest planet to the ascendant making a five degree conjunction. His Sun, Mars, part of fortune, and Venus are in Scorpio, ruled by Pluto. He has Neptune conjunct Antares, a royal fixed star giving the nature of Mars (traditional ruler of Scorpio). Antares is a violent star, is a warrior and will fight to survive. These influences of Antares, Mars, Pluto and Scorpio produce a survivor, one that can go to extreme lengths to overcome severe obstacles and emerge victorious. Pluto puts the focus on death, transformation, healing and rebirth. While he didn’t die, his close brush with death, subsequent seeking for revenge, and ultimate choice to let go produced a transformation, one in which he is able to surrender the ultimate fate of his attacker to God. This caused a healing within him, otherwise his attacker would continue to control his emotions for the rest of his life, even if he was dead. When Scorpio gets mad, there is a tendency to get even, to wait months and even years for the perfect time to get revenge, the scorpion part. However another symbol for Scorpio is the eagle, this is the higher part of Scorpio which masters the art of surrender, to forgive attackers and let go of negative emotion trusting that a higher power will right the wrongs and punish one’s attackers. Mars is the warrior, is vital, energetic and will passionately fight to survive. It represents courage, bravery, strength of will, and the thrill of persevering and succeeding despite the odds and in rough circumstances. The Revenant is very graphic, at one point showing Hugh carving out an animal’s insides so he can stay warm inside its body in the extreme cold. We see every emotion on his face as he battles the loneliness, the isolation, the betrayal of his teammates, and the harsh elements. Leo’s moon conjunct Pluto in the 1st house helps him convincingly convey the obsession, compulsion, intensity, drama, fear, sense of abandonment/ betrayal and primal survival instinct of this character. It’s no surprise to me that he won in 2016 in a number 9 year (2+0+1+6=9), as 9 vibrates to Pluto and Mars, and puts the world’s attention on fighting, betrayal and forgiveness. Planetary indicators of Leo’s best actor win on February 28th 2016 We will start by looking at the 1st and 10th houses because to have an event that increases fame and fortune, and puts one further into the limelight, we have to look to the most public houses. The MC is 3 degrees Cancer, and the ruler of the 10th house is the Moon at 15 degrees Libra. The dispositor of the Moon is Venus at 19 degrees Scorpio. Saturn at 18 degrees Cancer sits in the 10th house. The ascendant is 3 degrees Libra, ruler Venus is at 19 degrees Scorpio and dispositor Pluto is at 8 degrees Libra. Mercury and Uranus are conjunct at 29 degrees Libra in the first house. Thus we look to tight aspects (less than 3 degrees) from the transiting planets to those points. Transits Transiting Pluto at 16 degrees 53 minutes Capricorn tightly squares the Moon in the 1st house and makes a sextile to Venus. Pluto opposes Saturn. Transiting Neptune at 9 degrees 30 minutes Pisces makes an exact biquintile to the Moon in the 1st house. Neptune makes a quincunx to Pluto Transiting Uranus at 18 degrees 15 minutes Aries opposes the Moon in his 1st house. It makes a quincunx to Venus. Uranus makes an exact square to Saturn in the 10th house. Transiting Saturn at 15 degrees 52 minutes Sagittarius makes an exact square to the Moon in the 1st house. Tr Saturn makes a quincunx to Saturn in the 10th house. Tr Saturn makes an exact quintile to the ascendant at 3 degrees Libra. Saturn makes a semisquare to Mercury and Uranus in the 1st house. Transiting Jupiter at 19 degrees 22 minutes Virgo makes an exact sextile to Venus. Jupiter squares Saturn in the 10th house. Transiting Mars at 27 degrees 42 minutes Scorpio makes an exact biquintile to the MC at 3 degrees Cancer. Mars makes a semisquare to the Moon in the 1st house. Mars makes a semisextile to Mercury and Uranus in the 1st house. Transiting Venus at 14 degrees 47 minutes Aquarius trines the Moon in the 1st house. Transiting Mercury at 21 degrees 30 minutes Aquarius makes a sesquiquadrate to the MC. Mercury squares Venus. Mercury makes a quincunx to Saturn. Mercury makes a sesquiquadrate to Pluto. Transiting Sun at 9 degrees 58 minutes Pisces makes an exact biquintile to the Moon in the 1st house. Sun makes a quincunx to Pluto. Transiting Moon at 19 degrees Scorpio makes a sesquiquadrate to the MC. Moon makes an exact conjunction to Venus. Moon makes a trine to Saturn. Moon makes a semisquare to the ascendant. ![]() Solar Return 2015/2016 His solar return for November 11th 2015 which is in effect until his birthday in 2016 shows that Jupiter is conjunct the part of fortune and both are conjunct the SR ascendant. The POF is also a traditional indicator of success, and especially when found conjunct with Jupiter and the ascendant can bring prosperity directly to the individual. In addition, the North Node, Mars and Venus are in the 1st house, often when there is a lot of emphasis on the 1st house in the SR chart, the person becomes more noticeable to the public, is able to present themselves in a better light, and it is easier to gain positive recognition for their efforts. Venus being in its own sign Libra is a bonus for added charm and sophistication in presentation. Mercury rules the 1st and 10th houses in the SR return, creating that link for added fame, moreover it is conjunct the Sun which makes it very prominent in this year’s activities. Mercury is also conjunct the Moon which rules the 11th house of dreams, large organizations and peers. This will be a year when his peers in the industry in the formal, longstanding organization of the Oscars will finally grant him a dream come true. Progressed chart for February 28th 2016 By progression, natal Mars sits on the progressed ascendant at critical degree 9 Scorpio, again very favourable for garnering recognition and awards for one’s efforts. Progressed Mars at 9 degrees Sagittarius, also conjunct Neptune and the North Node is exactly conjunct Antares, one of the four Royal stars of Persia, the 15th brightest star in the sky. Ebertin said “Antares makes people tough, belligerent and pugnacious. This is an important star for military personnel, it is said to convey mental alertness, strategic ability and courage to make daredevils”(1). This seems like a perfect way to describe Leo’s character’s tenacious struggle for survival in The Revenant. Conclusion As we can see, there was a lot of cosmic energy on February 28th favouring Leo’s big win. The aspects that became exact helped to pinpoint the exact day of the promise coming to fruition. Especially worth noting is seven of the planets (Sun and Moon are commonly referred to planets in astrology) make an aspect to the Moon which is the strongest connector of the 1st and 10th houses, (Moon rules the 10th house and is placed in the 1st house). So what is the takeaway message of this story? I believe it is another powerful illustration of the popular belief that an important event is destined to occur “when the stars align”. At this time, no one and nothing can stop your destiny. Leo didn’t get upset all these years and insult the Academy for not awarding him, rather he kept an expectant attitude of faith, knowing that what was due to him would come. Regardless of how things look now or have looked in the past, if something is promised to you, you will be given the opportunities and recognition due to you at exactly the correct time, and not a day before!
